    This online teacher recertification course covers the teaching of biology within the new framework for K-12 Science Education (covering the topics of biodiversity and ecology). 3 Graduate Credits. Prerequisite: Knowledge of biology content and an undergraduate degree. The goal of this course is to refresh and update biological content knowledge in the areas of biodiversity and ecology. Participants will review “A Framework for K-12 Science Education” and begin the integration of the New Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in these topics. Active learning strategies will be examined in the presentation of these areas of emphasis.

    Biology teachers will find this course useful in helping them:

    • Refresh and review basic knowledge and concepts in biodiversity and ecology
    • Develop an understanding of recent developments in biodiversity and ecology
    • Explore methodologies for adapting the new Next Generation Science Standards to the biology classroom
